In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in Westmont; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in Illinois are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.

Went with my wife for a casual evening dinner at Katy’s Dumplings in Westmont and it was a solid night out. It’s a small place (just a handful of tables in a strip-mall spot), so it can get pretty crowded. We waited a bit but it was worth it for the homey vibe. We started with the Chengdu dumplings. They looked spicy but weren’t actually that hot, and they were really good. Solid flavors and nice texture. Next we tried the pan-fried scallion pancake that so many reviewers rave about. It was okay, but honestly just average for us. Nothing special. Then came the star of the night: Grandma’s fried rice. Absolutely the best thing we ordered. So much flavor, packed with a great mix of meats. That dish alone was totally worth the visit. We also got the beef stir-fry, which came with extra rice and was decent. Overall a nice homely little spot with decent food. Not everything blew us away, but the fried rice made it memorable. We’ll be back to try more.

Unbelievable. My son and I had tried all of their popular items. First, the Beef Noodle Soup, to die for. The flavors and rich and balanced and the best soup ive ever had and I look for the best ramen, pho, noodle soups, and etc... the soup dumplings incredible and the perfect size. The grandma's fried rice is delightful, and worth it. The Cheng Du dumplings were good but I would skip them for the rest of the dishes listed here, and the Dan Dan Noodles unfortunately didnt have any flavor and wouldn't get those again. All in all, this place beat the expectations. Thank you for the great food!

The food and everything about this place was genuine, generous, and exceptionally great! Call ahead as often times there’s a wait. We were lucky to get a table fairly quick. This spot is an absolute GEM!! Auntie Katy and crew are in the back making the magic happen. It’s the kind of place that whisks you away from the Western Suburbs to a far away land!! Cannot wait to go back

I’ve never had rice this good—Grandma’s Rice is a must. I literally saved all my calories just to enjoy K’s amazing food. If you love tender, flavorful beef, this is your spot. And if you’re into a good variety of dumplings, you’ll definitely find it here. The service is excellent, and every employee has taken such kind, genuine care of us. I look forward to dining in and having their amazing bowls.

Waiting time for a table 45 minutes BUT every second worth. The place is very small, just 7 small tables. I was received by the cashier with a friendly smile, very polite. He advised me that is going to be an estimate of 45 min wait. Surely they called me faster. Please don’t forget it’s a jewel osco next door in case you want to quick shop. The food was AMAZINGLY GOOD. Was worth every penny. The cost was towards the higher end, despite the $ sign on the other reviews, I would say $$. Again, every penny was worth. The 2 waiters were very fast and attentive. I got water refilled each time I would make them a sign. The toilet itself not visible but I did ask the cashier and they do have one for customers. I strongly recommend this place
